The whole point of getting to Bhutan was to be able to trek into the Himalayas. And so we did. At times, the hiking felt a lot like New Hampshire--a pleasant hike through pine forests.
We did spot some unique Himalayan birdlife along the way.
When one arrives at the monasteries, however, it feels very different than NH. If I recall my Buddhism correctly, every time a prayer flag flutters, a prayer is sent to heaven.
The finale was on the last day, when we arrived at Tiger's Nest, the monastery built in the 7th century that literally hangs off the side of the mountain.

ReplyDeleteJust finished your book and found my way to your blog. Was hoping to get a bit more info about your time in Bhutan which we are hoping to incorporate into a post-Covid trip. I know you mentioned a 3 day hike. Can you share the tour company and let me know if you liked them?
